Meals in the Cafeteria: SNS will be serving meals in the cafeterias again next year. We are experiencing significant staffing shortages and no longer have the pandemic-era flexibilities granted to us by the federal government’s waivers, which largely expired on June 30, 2022. As you plan for next year, please refrain from making special service requests (outdoor meal service, meals in the classroom, meal pick up by adults for an entire classroom, etc.) to dining staff and instead reach out to your Area Supervisor.
Bell Schedules: Thanks to California Universal Meals, SNS is serving more meals than ever before to our hungry students. We are also struggling with unprecedented staffing shortages. We need your partnership more than ever when planning your bell schedules for the 2023-24 school year. Two lunch periods are highly recommended for schools with over 500 students enrolled. We also strongly encourage schools to ensure students have at least 20 minutes for lunch once they are seated. The expectation is that all students should be coming through the line in the cafeteria to pick up lunch: we simply do not have staffing levels to support classroom lunch service or grab-and-go carts. Please keep this in mind when you are building your schedules, especially for complex sites, such as K-8s. Reach out to your Area Supervisor or directly to me (oropezan@sfusd.edu) with any questions. We appreciate your partnership!
