Looking for strategies to better support your multilingual learners? Multilingual Pathways is offering the following paid, professional development opportunities for middle and high school teachers this summer. All of these opportunities are focused on practical strategies to support English learner students to access grade-level content and develop academic English language skills. 

Reading Routines for Adolescent Newcomers at Emerging-Levels of English Proficiency (June 5-7): Exploring how to teach reading in English to newcomer MLs and how to set up reading routines in your classroom in order to support the development of fluency, stamina, vocabulary, and comprehension. Integrated ELD Strategies in Action: SAILL (June 27-28): Observe and learn integrated ELD strategies (discourse routines and writing strategies) in action during SFUSD’s SAILL summer program for high school students with emerging levels of English. Link to Sign Up

Ethnic Studies ELD: The Ethnic Studies team and Multilingual Pathways Department will be hosting a PD that combines Ethnic Studies concepts and language development approaches. Particularly for educators who are new to teaching Ethnic Studies, this institute will create a space for individuals to reflect on their identities, positionality, and pedagogical beliefs. If you are teaching Ethnic Studies ELD at your site, please complete this short Google form.
