April is Financial Literacy Month. A recent survey of adults showed that 88% of adults wished their schools required financial literacy lessons. Graduates of high schools who have had financial literacy lessons are 21% less likely to carry a balance on a credit card while in college. Let’s help our students get financially literate. A teacher friendly (no prep) slide deck with daily trivia questions and discussion prompts has been created for teachers. Free teacher lessons are available on ngpf.org. Create a teacher account to get access to answer keys.
For more information about ready-made personal finance lessons, please contact Kingsley Yee, yeek@sfusd.edu. Make a request by April 5 to receive student prizes. A photo or one sentence description of what you did would be all that is needed in return.
Contest for high school students: Write a 500 word (or less) essay answering the following “Why is Personal Finance important to you?” All entries must be typed and emailed with the subject line “Personal Finance is important to me” to yeek@sfusd.edu by May 1, 2023. There will be 10 winners selected and the prizes are a Herschel backpack, designer headphones, and a portable charger. The prizes will be delivered to the student the second week of May. Good luck and Happy Financial Literacy Month!
