Announcement Message
SFUSD’s Student Nutrition Services (SNS) offered free meals during the 2021-22 school year thanks to temporary flexibilities granted by USDA waivers during the COVID-19 pandemic. These waivers expired on June 2, 2022.
Thankfully, California has a plan. California Meals for All is set to begin in the 2022-23 school year, which allows us to continue providing free breakfast and lunch to students! We are strongly hopeful this will pass the full budget as the Governor and Legislature already have the funding approved. SNS continues to advocate for similar access for students across the country.

No application necessary for students to receive meals
- Classroom funding is still reliant on the Multipurpose Family Income Form - please continue to apply annually!
School meals are healthy!
- Having a consistent option for healthy meals helps nourish students to prepare them for life inside and outside the classroom.
- SFUSD will continue to hold high quality and nutrition standards, which meet or exceed guidelines provided by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and California Department of Education (CDE).
Changes to Snack and Supper
- The K-12 Snack program that has been offered during recent school years has ended due to the expired federal waivers.
- SNS is working over the Summer to ensure Supper programming continues next school year, but is navigating similar waiver expirations.
