Dear Teachers,
Thank you for all you are doing as teachers during these challenging times. We are hoping things will improve greatly by the summer, and invite you to consider our professional development opportunity below.
Join us for our 3-day Summer Institute and take a deep dive into one of the Amplify Science units for your grade level. The institute is organized by the Science and Health Education Partnership at UCSF and is being taught by SFUSD teacher leaders with extensive experience teaching Amplify Science in their classrooms.
In this 3-day institute, you will:

Get (more) familiar with the Amplify Science curriculum approach and structure

Receive an overview of the lesson sequence and learning progression of the selected unit

Engage in selected unit lessons and experience first-hand from a student perspective what science learning with Amplify looks like

Dive into the different kit components, including the online teacher guide, student readers, activity materials and investigative notebooks

Hear from teacher instructors about the highlights and challenges of the unit

Deepen your knowledge of the scientific concepts addressed in the unit

Learn from experiences and expertise within a learning community of 20-30 fellow grade-level colleagues
Grade level Course for Summer 2022 include:
Kindergarten: Needs of Plants and Animals
First Grade: Animal and Plant Defenses
Second Grade: Plant & Animal Relationships
Third Grade: Inheritance and Traits
Fourth Grade: Earth's Features
Fifth Grade: Patterns of Earth and Sky
When: Tuesday, June 7th – Thursday, June 9th, 9:00am – 3:00pm
Where: tbd, Middle or High School in SFUSD
Who: SFUSD K-5 teachers
Compensation: Teachers who complete the workshop will receive a $400 stipend. ($250 from SEP, $150 from SFUSD)
