Nationwide, supply chains and labor markets are experiencing severe disruptions and shortages, as illustrated in this memo from Kim Frinzell, CDE Nutrition Services Director. These pandemic related disruptions continue to impact SFUSD’s Student Nutrition Services (SNS) and are causing menu and packaging substitutions to occur more frequently than usual. The main items impacted right now are:
- Trays
- Spork Kits
- Pepperoni Pizza
SNS is working with multiple vendors to find solutions. At this time, we know that we will not be able to get Pepperoni Pizza through the end of the 2021-22 SY for any schools who serve only a Revolution Foods menu. We will however start adding another entree at these Elementary sites so students have a 2nd choice of entree. More to come on solutions around trays and spork kits.
The School Nutrition Association, a professional organization for school nutrition professionals, published videos in English and Spanish that might be helpful in explaining these supply chain issues to parents and even students.
