Summary
SFUSD student Google accounts now have more secure options for how students publish their work on various Google platforms.
Announcement Message
Google is now doing even more to protect student’s data and privacy within Google tools. As of September 1st, 2021, school districts have to designate which Google accounts are used by students, and those student accounts have more secure options for how students publish their work on various Google platforms.
Google Tools affected by this change:
- Blogger - students will no longer be able to use Blogger
- Location history - students will not be able to share their location history
- Google Search - students will continue to have SafeSearch on by default
- YouTube - students can still watch videos but will not be able to upload videos, post comments, or live stream using their SFUSD YouTube account
- High school students will no longer be able to upload videos to YouTube. High School students can still submit and share video projects via Google Classroom and Google Drive. Instructions for how high school students can save their uploaded videos from Youtube will be shared soon with high schools.
If you would like help with alternatives to these tools and functions, please submit a Help Desk ticket or reach out to your Digital Learning partner.
