SFUSD Staff - use your 18 PAID Professional Development Hours!
If you are a UESF-represented PARAEDUCATOR or CERTIFICATED STAFF MEMBER in SFUSD you have 18 Hours of PAID professional development that you can use if/when you choose! You receive these hours each year for the current school year, and they must be used within the current school year (July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2022) or they are no longer available. Hours do not roll over into the next school year (they zero out at the end of June), and you cannot use MORE than 18 hours in any given school year.
This is additional money you can access as an SFUSD employee. Hourly rates are $46 for certificated staff, $35 for child development program teachers (early education) and $22 for paraeducators. In total: $828 for certificated staff; $630 for child development program teachers; $396 for paraeducators. We hope you will use all of your hours and take advantage of this great opportunity to deepen your learning!
You choose (unpaid) professional development to attend outside of contract hours. The PD you choose may be offered by your site, by an SFUSD central department, or by an external group or organization (conferences, workshops, etc.); it can even be learning you do with colleagues (collaboration, planning, reflection, book clubs, etc.) or learning you do on your own time alone (reading educational texts, watching webinars, etc.).
After you complete hours, you submit a form for payment to your supervisor (principal, assistant principal, or central office supervisor) AND your clerk (site or department secretary/administrative assistant). Once approved by the supervisor, the clerk inputs the hours into payroll. The hours will then appear on your next paycheck! Read the Guidance below to learn all of the specifics.
