Announcement Message
What: The SFUSD Furniture Exchange Pilot is a google document managed by the SFUSD Sustainability Office and Custodial Department with the purpose of facilitating exchange of unwanted, surplus furniture between school sites this summer.
Why: The SFUSD Warehouse is currently stuffed with school PPE and supplies, leaving no room for excess furniture or supplies. Schools currently have either a surplus or deficit of furniture (i.e. cafeteria tables, students desks & chairs, teacher desks and chairs, book shelves, etc.). SFUSD Furniture Exchange Pilot is an attempt to redistribute this furniture between our school sites to meet site-based needs and avoid good quality furniture going to the dump or leaving the school district
When: Our goal is to have all unwanted surplus furniture out of schools either via site exchange, donation or dumping, so this document will stay live until August 9th, 2021 (the week before school starts).
How (to use the doc): If you see an item that you want for your site, or you believe someone else might want, tag that person and Darya Soofi by highlighting the item or text, and pressing the comment button in the toolbar at the top of the document, next to the “link” image. Then type “@soofid1@sfsusd.edu” into the comment box and type which school wants the furniture item. Or you can email Darya Soofi directly (soofid1@sfusd.edu) requesting the item that you’re interested in. Darya will coordinate with the warehouse to have the items delivered to your site.
Q&A
Why not donate it?
Due to COVID-19 many typical donation recipient organizations such as goodwill or salvation army, were shut down. With no ability to sell their existing inventory, they had to pause their donation collection. Currently, donation centers are open again, however they are no longer accepting large donations that take up space in their warehouses, such as furniture.
I have surplus furniture that I want out of my school! How do I put items onto this document?
Take a photo of your items and submit to this google form along with quantities and short descriptions.
