Announcement Message
For the last three years, DonorsChoose has partnered with four nonprofits—Google.org, Equal Opportunity Schools, Kingmakers of Oakland, and Kapor Center—to transform racial equity in AP STEM in the Bay. At participating schools, they've seen a 50% increase in Black and Latinx students enrolled in AP STEM, and double the number of students in AP Computer Science.
DonorsChoose Bay Area Rising STEM Scholars Initiative provides:
- $15-$30k of funding through DonorsChoose for any and all STEM material
- School-specific, real-time equity data on students’ goals, barriers, and means to thrive in STEM
- Identification metrics for which students could succeed in AP courses, but are not enrolling, and coaching to help enroll those students
- Best-in-class coaching, antiracist professional development, and community building for admin, teachers, and students
- Student participation in Google’s CS Summer Institute, Kapor Center student leadership programming, and Kapor/Kingmakers Student Summits
Google.org is 1:1 matching the cost of initiative, so schools only have to contribute $14k, but will receive at minimum $15,000 in DonorsChoose credits for any and all STEM materials.
There are up to 10 spots remaining this fall for schools to join this final year of the initiative. If you’re interested in joining or learning more, please check out the info session on May 6th, or email Eddie Lincoln at eddie@eoschools.org for more information.
