Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for your partnership as we work together through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic! As we start a new year, here are some reminders to keep you and your family healthy:
- Get the flu vaccine. Protecting yourself from the flu helps protect everyone around you too!
- Catch up on vaccines. Ask about needed vaccines when your child gets their flu shot or goes for their annual physical exam.
- Brush your teeth twice a day, and visit the dentist every 6 months, as recommended, to keep teeth and gums healthy. Dental decay is one of the most common reasons children miss school. Kinders and 1st graders new to the district: please ask the dentist to complete this Oral Health Assessment Form and submit it to the school (see below for instructions on submitting health documents to your child’s school).
- Eat healthy. A healthy diet has a lot of benefits. Resist the urge to snack on unhealthy food, and drink tap water.
- Be active. Regular exercise (30 minutes/day) can help with mood, stress, circulation, and energy levels.
- Get plenty of rest. Getting enough sleep (8-10 hours/day) can help with anxiety, stress, and depression.
To get the flu shot and other vaccines, please make an appointment with your child’s regular health care provider. Medical and dental clinics require face coverings and physical distancing and are doing extra cleaning to keep patients safe from COVID-19.
- If your child does not have a regular health care provider or dentist, see the list of low-cost or free clinics on the back of this letter.
Submitting health documents to your child’s school: Use the following ways to submit health documents, such as updated vaccination records or the Oral Health Assessment Form:
- Upload documents to the online Emergency Card on ParentVUE (see sfusd.edu/emergencycard for instructions), OR
- Email documents to the school’s Health Worker, School District Nurse, or familylink@sfusd.edu, OR
- Mail or drop off documents to: School Health Programs, c/o Nurse of the Day, 1515 Quintara Street, San Francisco CA 94116
If you have questions, please contact the Nurse of the Day at the SFUSD Student and Family Resource Link: call (415) 340-1716 or email familylink@sfusd.edu.
