SFUSD’s English/Language Arts Team, in the Office of Curriculum & Instruction, is seeking middle grades English/Language Arts teachers and teacher librarians to:

     📚 Evaluate the current SFUSD Middle Grades Recommended Reading Lists for 6th-8th grade E/LA using the SFUSD/NYU Culturally Responsive Curriculum Scorecards

      📚 Collect a list of new titles for the committee to consider adding to the lists

      📚 Develop an understanding of the criteria for how to review reading selections and assess text complexity 

      📚 Read and evaluate informational and literary selections for inclusion on the SFUSD English/Language Arts Recommended Reading List  

      📚 Recommend titles for inclusion on the SFUSD English/Language Arts Recommended Reading List

The committee work will launch in early 2021, meeting twice in January to review selection criteria and select titles to review.  Teachers will read 1-3 selected texts in February and will be compensated at the UESF agreed-upon rate for 10 extended hours.  In March, the committee will convene to hear reviews and make recommendations.

Committee meetings will be scheduled based on member availability and may include time during Wednesday early release, after school and/or during the contract day. Extended hours will be provided for work beyond the contract day; subs will be provided as needed.
