Designated ELD is a requirement for all students who score below a 4 on the Summative ELPAC. Designated ELD is protected time in the school day for focused language study. Please review what the research says about Designated ELD.
Opting out of Designated ELD must be a voluntary decision of the parent. Please review the protocol for discussing D-ELD opt out with parents. Students who have opted out of Designated ELD last year and who did not score a 4 on the Summative ELPAC or who did not have the opportunity to take the ELPAC in the spring, have the right to opt back into designated ELD.
Due to the late return of ELPAC scores, we are not able to send these to parents prior to the start of school. Please advise counselors to use this letter (available in multiple languages) as a guide to conduct conversations with parents over the phone about their child’s ELPAC scores which can be found on this ELPAC longitudinal Roster or on the student profile page in Illuminate.
Please advise counselors to use this letter (available in multiple languages) as a guide to conduct conversations with parents over the phone about their child’s ELPAC scores which can be found on this 2020-21 ELD Placement Data Report and the options they have to enroll their child in a designated ELD course or continue to opt out of Designated ELD. Forms to opt-in and to opt-out of Designated ELD should be scanned and returned to Sukei Lao, Ed Policy Analyst in Multilingual Pathways, at laos@sfusd.edu. We will then update the information in Synergy, which can be found at the bottom of the Synergy ELL page.
