SFUSD PreKindergarten has both subsidized and tuition-based options.

Subsidized

Qualifying families may take advantage of a sliding-scale subsidy, based on family income. Additionally, families may seek subsidies if parents or guardians are:

  • employed or seeking employment
  • attending school
  • medically incapacitated
  • participating in CalWorks through Social Services
  • seeking permanent housing
  • receiving Child Protective Services

Please contact the Early Education Enrollment Office at 415-241-6085 to inquire about your child’s eligibility for subsidies  prior to applying.

Tuition-Based

Families who do not qualify for subsidized slots may apply for tuition based slots pending availability at preferred schools. Tuition-based families do not have to meet a "need" or any other requirement. Tuition-based enrollment slots for PreK are available on a first come, first serve basis at $2,000 per month for the 2024-25 school year (subject to change). Each school will invoice families on a monthly basis, and all fees are to be paid directly to your child’s school. There is also a non-refundable application fee of $175 that must be submitted with your application for each child you wish to enroll. The application allows for the family to list three schools of choice.

Tuition-based and subsidized children are in the same classrooms and receive the same services.
