Announcement Message
Dear SFUSD Community,
I am grateful for the ways that our City shows up for our students and staff every day. From public parks and libraries to our community schools, there are countless examples where SFUSD works hand-in-hand with our city partners so that our students can thrive inside and outside of our schools.
This past September, during a time of uncertainty, the Mayor’s School Stabilization Team was formed to provide expertise and coordinated support to ensure that SFUSD had the resources it needed to get back on track. Many of our challenges are not unique to San Francisco, and this collaboration between the City and SFUSD has catalyzed a collective effort to tackle them head on.
Working with the School Stabilization Team, we made progress to fill staffing vacancies, regain a fully credentialed teaching workforce, and improve the District’s operational health. The effort has also made additional one-time grants available to SFUSD schools to provide crisis support, conduct discrete problem-solving, and resource emergent strategies.
Although the School Stabilization Team is sunsetting, my commitment to collaborating with our City partners continues. As we navigate the road ahead, we will be faced with difficult decisions as a community for which there are no easy fixes or shortcuts. However, I am confident that our community is greater than the sum of our parts. SFUSD students belong in our City’s tapestry, and I am committed to weaving together networks of support so that they are set up for life-long success. And I hope you will join me in this effort.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of San Francisco public schools.
In community,
Dr. Maria Su
SFUSD Superintendent
