Announcement Message
The earthquake and tsunami warning on Thursday, Dec. 5 for coastal areas in parts of northern California and southern Oregon serves as a good reminder to be prepared in the event of an emergency.
We want to assure you that all SFUSD schools have safety protocols and a plan in the event of an emergency as well as multiple security measures, which we regularly review and update. You can review SFUSD’s safety and emergency plans here.
If an emergency does occur at an SFUSD school, we will notify families as quickly as possible via text, email and/or a phone call. Therefore, in order to receive urgent messages in as many ways as possible, your child’s school and SFUSD must have your current contact information. Please make sure you have updated your contact information on ParentVUE.
Fortunately, we did not receive any reports of injuries or damages at our schools as a result of these instances on Dec. 5, and schools continued with regular activities once the tsunami warning was lifted.
We know this situation on Dec. 5 was alarming, and we want to thank everyone in our district for acting quickly and swiftly as we assessed the situation, coordinated closely with city officials, and provided support to sites closer to the coast that may have been impacted.
