Announcement Message
Student Nutrition Services' implementation of Meal Pins expanded this year. It takes a whole school community to continue nourishing students amongst changes!
Why we're making this adjustment
Student Nutrition Services is obligated to keep a clear and accurate count of school meals offered and school meals served. This is how we get reimbursed at a State and Federal level. Essentially, counting meals accurately is incredibly important to be able to continue serving free meals for ALL SFUSD students.
How Meal Pins Work
- Students are assigned a personal Meal Pin that is anywhere between 4 and 9 digits long.
- Students can find their meal pin via email, StudentVue, Meal Pin Card (Middle Schools Only), Student ID Card, or by asking a dining staff at the service line.
- Students bring their meal pin with them to every meal service, Breakfast & Lunch.
- Once students pick up a complete meal, including fruit and/or veggie, they input their meal pin into the pin pad at the end of the service line.
How You Can Help
- Encourage students to remember their meal pin, take a photo, memorize it; however they need to go about it to have it with them at the time of service.
- Remind students that meals are still free, that pins do not charge them any money. It's worth remembering their pin!
- Encourage students to continue participating in the meal program, but to be patient with our dining staff, they are doing everything they can to ensure that every student who wants one gets a nutritious meal every day!
Thank you for your continued partnership this school year! We hope your students come and dine with us!
