In accordance with U.S. Ed Code Section 6312,  annual notification letters for parents/guardians of English Learner students have been posted on ParentVUE on Sept. 12. Families who do not have at least one active ParentVUE account have been mailed a physical letter to the student’s home address on the week of Sept. 9.

The letters inform parents/guardians of their child's continued identification as an English learner (EL) in a California school, and provide all the required information to meet Federal Title I or Title III requirements, which include but are not limited to the following information:

  • English proficiency status
  • English language assessment results
  • Language pathway of the EL student
  • Language acquisition programs
  • Exit criteria (the four criteria required for reclassification)
  • Graduation rate
  • Parental rights and options*
    • *Parents/guardians seeking a change in program placement must be offered and provided information regarding the various programs/methods of instruction available in the school and in SFUSD. Information about English Learner programs can be found on the SFUSD website at: https://www.sfusd.edu/learning/english-language-learners/english-learner-guides
    • Any change of program from Immersion/Biliteracy, etc. to English Plus or vice versa, requires parents to go through the Educational Placement Center as other students may be on the waiting list.

For your reference, this folder contains templates of the letter in six languages. The letters sent out to families have personalized data that are populated for the student.
