Announcement Message
Dear SFUSD Early Education Families and Staff,
As you may be aware, SFUSD is currently distributing at-home COVID-19 antigen tests for TK-12 students. We continue to seek more testing options, include rapid test kits and hope to have kits to share with our youngest learners in the near future. Meanwhile, we hope this information can provide further clarification regarding why the first set of test kits is going to K-12 students.
Test kits were provided through the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) specifically for students in TK-12 ; the State did not include PK students in this allocation We understand that this may cause confusion as SFUSD is a PK-12 grade school district and it has been our aim to align supports across grade levels where possible. Please know that SFUSD staff are taking steps to research more opportunities for delivering rapid at-home test kits for our students in addition to appealing to CDPH in hopes that we can include our Pre-K population in these allocations in the near future.
It’s important to understand that there is no current testing requirement for returning to school. There are many COVID prevention measures that we are all adhering to that help prevent the spread of COVID - daily health screenings, masking and staying home when feeling sick. You can find information on the district’s Health & Safety website page: Health and Safety Website page
In the meantime, we recommend that families with PK children continue to use the Color testing kits as needed. Information about Color testing sites can be found on the district website. In addition throughout this month, SFUSD is partnering with Safer Together to provide rapid testing at mobile sites across the city. Please use bit.ly/sfusdtesting to register for testing with Safer Together. Appointments are required and we may not be able to accommodate walk-ins with no appointments.
