Next week, October 11th-15th is National School Lunch Week!
This year marks 75 years since The National School Lunch Program began in the U.S. Through its evolution, equity has become the driving force to provide students the nutritious meals they deserve throughout the school day. This stands true at SFUSD’s Student Nutrition Services, where our mission informs all school meal programs, new investments, and ongoing commitments. We are doing everything we can to increase access to meals for students across San Francisco, especially for students most in need. This includes taking advantage of opportunities that arise from our state and federal partners.
For example, this school year we found new ways to offer a 4th food option of the day, to have snacks available at schools with 50% or more free/reduced eligible families. See if your school offers an additional snack from the list on Nutrition & School Meals.
We stand strongly behind efforts to provide healthy meals to all students, such as California’s Universal Meals beginning next school year.
- Celebrate National School Lunch Week this October 11th-15th by saying “thank you!” to your dining staff at lunch!
