Announcement Message
In preparation for the Fall 2021 full return to in-person learning, SFUSD is planning to offer general education transportation services to K-8 students at a limited number of schools.
If your child has transportation already included as part of your child’s IEP, you do not need to sign up for general education transportation. The Transportation Department will reach out to you directly.
Bus routes for general education transportation are located near public housing, transitional housing, and areas of the city with high concentrations of students who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals based on the Board of Education Policy on General Education Transportation.
If you are interested, please review the schools with available transportation. To be considered for access to a school bus the first day of school, apply by July 16. While we will review and respond to requests weekly after July 16, capacity may be extremely limited.
The Transportation Department will notify all families requesting general education transportation services whether their request has been approved or denied. SFUSD may not be able to accommodate all families who request GE bus services for the Fall 2021, so we encourage you to review the following to explore alternate transportation options at sfmta.com and sfsaferoutes.org.
Starting this Fall, SFUSD student ridership cards will be required to enter and exit the general education school bus. Every student approved for ridership will be issued a student ridership card, which will ensure that students arrive at their destinations safely. When students scan their card on the bus reader upon entry and exit, families will be able to track their student on the family app. Replacement costs for lost or destroyed cards will carry a $5 charge.
If your child is approved for ridership on an SFUSD bus, COVID-19 health and safety protocols will be in place.
