Record-Breaking Number of Guests Attended Enrollment Fair in October

San Francisco (October 24, 2024) - The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) launched its enrollment season for the 2025-26 school year on Saturday, Oct. 19, by hosting its annual enrollment fair and workshops for families who wish to enroll their child(ren) for the first time, or into a new school or grade level for the upcoming school year.

The highest number of attendees in recent memory – over 7,700 people — attended the Enrollment Fair to meet with representatives from every school in SFUSD, take part in enrollment workshops, and connect with resources and information from SFUSD, city agencies, and community organizations.

In addition to enrollment resources at the fair, families enjoyed free food from the Vegan Hood Chefs that was sponsored by the Warriors Community Foundation, a photo booth, music from student DJs, performances from SFUSD students, free books from the San Francisco Public Library Bookmobile, and prize giveaways.

SFUSD will also hold workshops in November for families who were not able to attend the enrollment fair. Virtual workshops will be focused specifically on the enrollment process and will be held in English, Spanish, and Cantonese. Families can request interpretation in other languages by emailing the Enrollment Center at enrollinschool@sfusd.edu

Applications for schools and programs for grades TK-12 are now available for the 2025-26 school year. Families applying for the first time or looking to transfer schools next year should submit their applications by Jan. 31, 2025 to meet the application deadline. Read more about the application process and deadlines for all schools, including selective high schools, at sfusd.edu/enroll

For school year 2025-26, SFUSD is opening 11 new Transitional Kindergarten programs. Transitional kindergarten (TK) bridges the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten years. It is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that has been implemented in California for children who are not old enough yet for kindergarten, but want to build their social, developmental and academic skills.

SFUSD is simplifying the enrollment process for families for the 2025-26 school year to reduce complexity and improve assignment outcomes for students who apply in the Main Round. The two key changes are:

  • Eliminate the multiple application rounds, and only have one application deadline, after which applicants get automatically placed onto waitlists for their top choice schools without having to re-apply. Late applicants would be assigned to a school with open space and allowed to join waitlists.
  • Allow applicants to wait on several schools’ waitlists rather than having to pick just one waitlist choice.
