SF Board of Education Extends Superintendent Search Timeline Link to this section
San Francisco (February 18, 2022) - Today the SF Board of Education announced that it will be extending the deadline to apply for the position of San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) superintendent.
President Gabriela Lopez and Vice President Jenny Lam directed the search firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) to continue to accept applications for another month or through the end of March. The search firm is working with the Board on various phases of the recruitment and hiring process, including recruitment of a diverse pool of highly qualified candidates, reference checking, and the interview process.
“Selecting a superintendent for our schools is one of the most important jobs of the SF Board of Education,” said Board President Lopez. “In recognition of the leadership changes that will be taking place in the coming weeks, the Board has decided to extend the application timeline in order to give candidates more time.”
Per the new timeline, SF Board of Education commissioners will review all applications that have been submitted and will determine the candidates they wish to bring in for initial interviews in early April with second round interviews likely occurring in late April. The Board hopes to make an offer no later than May with a target start date of July 1, 2022.
SFUSD’s current superintendent, Dr. Vincent Matthews, plans to retire at the end of the 2021-22 school year.
Information about the timeline, process, job posting, survey, and FAQs are posted online at sfusd.edu/superintendent-search.
