WHAT
Third Grade students at Flynn Elementary School will get a hands-on computer science lesson to celebrate the beginning of Computer Science Education Week. The class will be taught in Spanish, highlighting how students in SFUSD are able to learn CS skills in ways that are accessible and culturally relevant to their everyday lives.

WHY
Computer Science Education Week (CS Ed Week) is a week dedicated to celebrating computer science (CS), demystifying code, exploring impacts of computing, and giving it a try! By expanding CS education access to all ages and groups, SFUSD is committed to addressing inequities within STEM fields and helping students develop transferable skills that will allow them to thrive in the 21st century.

AUDIO / VISUAL
Students will be using Makey Makeys, which use colorful circuitry to turn everyday objects into computer interfaces.

As the first large, urban school district in the U.S. to develop and implement a comprehensive pre-K to 12 computer science curriculum, SFUSD currently provides computer science education at most schools. The number of students participating in computer science instruction has dramatically increased since 2013-14, currently reaching about half of the 54,000 students in SFUSD.
