WHAT

 

Wearing their best clothing, dozens of students will crowd the “dinner table” to enjoy a feast of turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. Kindergarteners to fifth-graders, all newly arrived immigrants who speak only Spanish, will highlight the American tradition with songs such as “This Land is Your Land,” to “Mr. Turkey,” to “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”

ABOUT MISSION EDUCATION CENTER

 

Students will celebrate their first Thanksgiving in this country by singing songs and eating food.

 

Mission Education Center, founded in 1972, is a K-5 school for newly arrived immigrant students who speak only Spanish. The transitional program is aimed at helping newcomers achieve the necessary skills and confidence in order to succeed in the school to which they will transfer at the end of one year.
