WHY

Two years ago, SFUSD passed its Carbon Neutral Schools resolution, committing to eliminating fossil fuel usage and carbon emissions by the year 2040. The District’s Carbon Reduction Plan spells out three main goals: 1) Reducing the energy usage of our buildings, 2) Switching from natural gas-fired to electric equipment, and 3) Powering our schools with renewable energy. The new all-electric, carbon neutral building at Claire Lilienthal brings SFUSD a step closer to realizing these goals.

AUDIO/VISUAL

Students will tour the new building and learn about the many features that conserve energy.

ABOUT CLAIRE LILIENTHAL’S CARBON NEUTRAL BUILDING
As SFUSD’s first Zero Net Energy-ready school, Claire Lilienthal will only use one-third of the energy usage of a typical California school. With all electric equipment, the building is 100% powered by clean, renewable hydroelectric power from the SF Public Utilities Commission.
