Highlights May 20-24, 2019: Spring arts showcase at The Arc; Automotive Technology facility gets major tune-up; EMS skills put to the test with experts

Spring has sprung just in time for AccessSFUSD’s Spring Arts Spectacular. The inclusive arts showcase will feature visual and performing arts created by 20 students in the AccessSFUSD program. The event will include weavings, screen printing in collaboration with Haight Street Art Center, jewelry in collaboration with local artist Bottle of Clouds as well as a performance by a Bollywood fitness dance class, a theater performance in collaboration with American Conservatory Theater, stop-motion animation films created with the Walt Disney Family museum, and a screening of a music video film project. AccessSFUSD: The Arc is a community-based program for students ages 18-22 with disabilities. We focus on teaching functional life skills within the community setting.

The Automotive Technology Pathway facility at Washington High School just got a major tune-up. Students and staff will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the fully-renovated space, which includes updated industry-standard equipment. This program prepares students for careers in automotive maintenance, machining and other related paths. The ceremony is an opportunity to learn about the program, tour the facility and watch student demonstrations. The Automotive Technology Pathway is one of over 40 College and Career pathways in SFUSD in which students participate in a 2-3 year course sequence with an emphasis on one industry.

Students in the John O’Connell High School Health and Behavioral Science Pathway will demonstrate their EMS skills like FAST Stroke Recognition, Heart Attack Recognition, CPR including Heimlich Maneuver, C-Spine Application and Bleeding Control to local emergency services experts, including volunteers with the San Francisco Fire Department. The Health and Behavioral Science Pathway helps students prepare for a wide range of health-related career paths in San Francisco.
