Highlights for March 4-8, 2019: Students shadow SF hotels and restaurants; Young voices unite in song Link to this section
More than 100 high school students in SFUSD’s Academy of Hospitality, Tourism and Food Service (AoHTF) will shadow employees at 50 hotels and restaurants across San Francisco as part of Job Shadow Day. The annual event allows students to gain real-life experience and knowledge about possible careers. At the Omni San Francisco, students will shadow employees: at the front desk, at Bob’s Steak & Chop House, in sales, in housekeeping, in catering, and more. AoHTF is part of SFUSD’s growing focus on College and Career Pathways, and is currently offered at five high schools: Galileo, George Washington, Ida B. Wells, John O’Connell and Thurgood Marshall.

More than 300 students from elementary schools across the district, including Buena Vista-Horace Mann, Clare Lilienthal, Commodore Sloat, Dianne Feinstein, Lawton, Lafayette, McKinley, Peabody and Sunset elementary schools will perform as the choral collaborative, Young Voices in Song. The show, titled On Broadway, will feature music from well-known musicals, such as Annie, Hairspray, Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, The Wiz, Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton. Students from Ruth Asawa School of the Arts will also join the chorus on stage. The purpose of the collaboration is to foster community as well as raise awareness and increase interest in SFUSD’s choral program.
