The Bayview Hunters Point YMCA’s Center for Academic Re-entry and Empowerment (CARE) Program will host its 10th annual Merchant Walk. SFUSD alumni and community members will engage local merchants to promote education and encourage them to not allow students to patronize their businesses during school hours. Merchants will receive information about the CARE Program to share with their customers to increase community awareness of the importance of daily classroom attendance.

While children all over the city may dress as their favorite action hero, animal or cartoon, San Francisco Public Montessori Elementary School will be celebrating Halloween with a unique and educational twist. Students will celebrate Historical Halloween by dressing up as a historical figure - such as a politician, human rights activist, inventor, entertainer or artist - then presenting their costume along with a mini history lesson. The school has celebrated Historical Halloween for the past 9 years along with all Montessori schools nationwide.

Three student winners of the San Francisco Kindergarten to College (K2C) Program 5th grade Saving for College Art Contest will be honored at a reception hosted by Treasurer José Cisneros at City Hall and receive certificates from SFUSD Superintendent Dr. Vincent Matthews. Students from 15 schools entered the contest. Winners earn an extra $125, $100, or $75 K2C scholarship for their college savings account, which is automatically opened for each SFUSD student.
