‘Passport Day’ builds middle school culture,
Major renovation nearly complete at elementary school
Highlights for August 21-24, 2018
Students at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Middle School will participate inPassport Day, which helps onboard students with the school’s expectations for the year in a fun learning environment. Students will obtain stamps on their “Passports,” which are earned in various ways like taking a selfie with the head counselor or doing a dab dance with the principal. These activities and other efforts at the school have led to a dramatic decrease in suspensions -- from 118 in the 2014-15 school year to 16 in the 2017-18 school year.

Junipero Serra Elementary School students returned to a freshly renovated schoolthis week as a two-year construction and modernization project at the school wraps up. Upgrades include a new four-classroom building with a teacher work area and PE storage, a new multipurpose room/cafeteria addition, and total modernization of the existing building. The improvements were funded through the San Francisco voter-approved Proposition A Bond. Media is invited to tour the new space, including one of the new classrooms.
