The SF Board of Education will vote on aggressive targets for reducing fossil-fuel usage by 2040. SFUSD has developed a Carbon Reduction Plan for SFUSD buildings and vehicles, including phasing out gas heating systems, switching to renewable diesel for buses, and harvesting more rainwater, among other strategies. |

WHY |
SFUSD recognizes its contribution to climate change via the natural gas it uses to heat its buildings and the fuels it uses to power its vehicles. Since its recent bond-funded modernization, John Yee Hall Chin Elementary School has been equipped with many new features to reduce energy usage -- features the district hopes to expand to more schools, including skylights, daylight sensors, ceiling fans, and electric heat pumps. |
