Media Advisory

WHAT

The SF Board of Education will vote on aggressive targets for reducing fossil-fuel usage by 2040. SFUSD has developed a Carbon Reduction Plan for SFUSD buildings and vehicles, including phasing out gas heating systems, switching to renewable diesel for buses, and harvesting more rainwater, among other strategies.

WHEN

Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

WHY

SFUSD recognizes its contribution to climate change via the natural gas it uses to heat its buildings and the fuels it uses to power its vehicles. Since its recent bond-funded modernization, John Yee Hall Chin Elementary School has been equipped with many new features to reduce energy usage -- features the district hopes to expand to more schools, including skylights, daylight sensors, ceiling fans, and electric heat pumps.
