Honoring a young hero & prioritizing high-needs students: Highlights for April 18 - 24 Link to this section

Highlights

When his uncle was having a medical emergency, 12-year-old Adrian Perez didn't panic-instead, he called 911, followed the public safety dispatcher's instructions while waiting for the paramedics to arrive and saved his uncle's life. Adrian is a textbook example of how to stay calm during an emergency and demonstrated maturity beyond his years. For this reason, he will be honored with a 9-1-1 Local Hero Award in front of 300 6th grade classmates at Denman Middle School. At the ceremony Adrian will get to meet the public safety dispatcher who helped him save his uncle, along with District 11 Supervisor Ahsha Safai and NFL Hall of Famer and retired Oakland Raider Tim Brown.

When: Wednesday, April 19 / 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Where: James Denman Middle School / 241 Oneida Ave.

Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAPs) show how school districts will spend their state supplemental funds on high-needs students. The LCAP, a required plan under the state's Local Control Funding Formula, must focus on eight areas identified as state priorities. Through focus groups with families, community members, district staff, and students, we have been listening to concerns and ideas about budget tradeoffs, priorities and ways to support all students. This week, SFUSD will present the draft LCAP for 2017-2018, with a special effort made toward getting feedback from families of English learners.

When:   Wednesday, April 19 / 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

Where:  James Lick Middle School / 1220 Noe St.
