This coming Tuesday, the Mission High menu will feature black turtle beans. The beans will be paired with the Chicken Taco Trio, and students in the pathway will be serving the beans, and then polling their peers at lunch for feedback. The students hope to feature produce from the ranch on Mission High's lunch menu once a month starting this spring. Mission's Urban Agriculture Pathway students have been involved in internship programs and visited the farm as part of their studies.

Students in the Green Academy at Lincoln High have been building a set of Solar Suitcases as part of their science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education and community service. These kits, which are the size of a small suitcase, are assembled by students into a complete solar electric system that includes solar charge, circuit breakers, and sockets for lights and charging both 12 volt and 5 volt DC appliances. As all the suitcases near completion, the class will be taking them outside to the yard to test their solar electric systems in sunlight. The project is in partnership with We Share Solar, the education program of the local non-profit We Care Solar, and Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The suitcases will be donated to rural schools in Kenya that lack reliable access to electricity to improve education opportunities by providing light and device charging at school.

When: Tuesday, November 29 / 2:15 - 3:00 p.m.

Where: Lincoln HS / 2162 24th Ave
