Kids vote for president & tackle tough issues: Highlights for Nov. 3 - 8, 2016 Link to this section
Hoover Middle School students will be heading downtown on Saturday to tackle youth homelessness, affordable housing, gender gap issues, and cyberbullying during the annual Civic Tech Challenge. This is a day-long hackathon-inspired event where Bay Area tech workers team up with middle- and high-school youth from Generation Citizen and college volunteer Democracy Coaches to develop tech tools that can enhance the students' projects.
When: Saturday, Nov. 5 / (best times to visit are 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. & 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.)

Students at SF Public Montessori will practice casting their votes for president on election day, complete with lining up at the 'polling place,' marking a ballot in a private voting booth, and filling out an exit poll so the school can report early results. Their experience will be completed by getting a "Just Voted" sticker. For a few weeks now, students have been discussing our election process and issues, at an age-appropriate level, to prepare for election day.

"Twinkle Twinkle 50 States," "This Land is Your Land," and more classics will be sung by students at Commodore Sloat Elementary students during their first-ever election day assembly. The event will feature not only selections from the Great American Songbook, but inspirational quotes from Thomas Jefferson, Jane Addams, Malala Yousafzai, Barack Obama, and more.
