A salsa side dish & a lot of data: Highlights for Oct. 25 - Oct. 30, 2016 Link to this section
Students at Galileo High created a new salsa recipe for SFUSD’s school lunches, and they will be taste testing it before it goes districtwide. SFUSD is part of the California Thursdays network, which celebrates the abundance and creativity of California by creating a new recipe for this popular California condiment. SFUSD’s Lead Dining staffer, Jorge Mancera, led a group of freshman students at Galileo in creating the recipe, and in the process, students learned how to prepare each ingredient and incorporate them into other dishes. Students will be on hand to watch cooks bring their recipe to life in the school’s kitchen and try the results.
When: Wednesday, Oct. 26 /10:30-10:45 a.m.
Where: Galileo HS / 1150 Francisco St.

SFUSD gathers a great deal of data -- everything from how students feel about school to how well they can solve quadratic equations -- and uses this data to shape the the budget. Parents will learn how SFUSD is making progress in meeting its goals, particularly those related to reducing suspensions and supporting English Language Learners, foster youth and African American students.
When: Wednesday, Oct. 26 / 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Where: James Lick MS / 1220 Noe St.

Thousands of San Francisco parents will be attending the annual SFUSD Enrollment Fair to check out 2017-18 school options for their child. This fair is a one-stop shop, with all San Francisco’s public schools under one roof. Along with the school tables, there will be workshops to explain transitional kindergarten, language pathways and other program options. The event is packed with principals, teachers, parents, and students who are ready to talk to prospective families about what is special about their school. For many parents, this is a chance to get to know the people who are behind the schools -- not just the numbers.
When: Saturday, Oct. 29 / 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Where: City College Wellness Center / 1800 Ocean Ave.
