WHY
The Summer Enrichment Academy at Willie Brown signed up 70 students in its first year. The program is a free opportunity for children from Bayview and across San Francisco to continue learning through the summer. Students take educational field trips to places like the San Francisco Zoo; and learn engineering, cooking and music skills. The academy’s showcase event will highlight what students learned during the program’s three weeks. Willie Brown Middle, which opened in the 2015-16 school year in the Bayview, plans to offer the Summer Enrichment Academy for its students after every school year.
AUDIO/VISUAL
Seventh grade students will perform African drumming, demonstrate how they created Claymation videos, display their sculptures, and prepare food samples from recipes they’ve mastered. There are also opportunities before the event to view students in the classroom practicing and preparing for the showcase event.
