Celebrating moms & 'steaming up' science: Highlights for May 3-9, 2016 Link to this section
Students at the Chinese Immersion School at De Avila will be throwing open the doors of their new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) lab for a grand opening. The lab was part of the Spring 2015 iLab redesign process, the iLab being an SFUSD program that sponsors cross-functional team design challenges where students, parents, school staff, district administrators, and partners create innovative solutions to problems within their communities. The new lab was funded by the school district’s Impact & Innovation Award and support from the school’s PTA.
When: Friday, May 6 / 9:15-10:00 a.m.

Students at John O’Connell High School will have a chance to celebrate their mothers, fathers and families at the school’s “Mariachi & Motown” event during Mother’s Day weekend. Families will be serenaded by mariachi performers, enjoy a taco dinner and dance to Motown hits. The annual event aims to create community in the Mission District among students, families and school staff. Parking will be available in the schoolyard behind the school.
