Making the most of rain & careers in hospitality: Highlights for March 22-25, 2016 Link to this section
Spring has arrived, and 28 SFUSD schools currently have access to nearly 40,000 gallons of water collected by cisterns installed in their schoolyard gardens. With so much rain this winter, some cisterns are now full, including the one at New Traditions Elementary, where students are learning more about rainwater catchment systems and other sustainable activities. New Traditions’ students, along with thousands of other SFUSD students, work with Education Outside Americorps members, who help maintain and use the gardens as outdoor science classrooms. On March 22 a third-grade class will be learning about the water cycle and drought-tolerant plants.
