More SFUSD students than ever are eating breakfast at school, so the millionth breakfast of the school year is being served a month earlier than last year. Many SFUSD schools have ‘Breakfast in the Classroom,’ a program where every student has access to a free and healthy breakfast at his or her desk during the first class of each day. Eating breakfast in the classroom eliminates the stigma that can be associated with eating a school breakfast in the cafeteria and ensures that every student starts the day with a nutritious meal. At Bret Harte Elementary, 80 percent of students eat breakfast at school, and this week, one lucky child will get a golden ticket when she or he is served SFUSD’s millionth breakfast.

When:   Thursday, March 17 / 7:00 – 8:45 a.m. (winning breakfast will be at approximately 8:30 a.m.)

Where:  Bret Harte ES / 1035 Gilman Ave.

Candidates for next year’s SFUSD Student Advisory Committee (SAC) will be discussing a range of issues including sex ed, racism and math, as well as advocating for youth rights and effective leadership at the Annual Youth Summit. Guests will host workshops for hundreds of high schoolers at this student-planned event. The SAC is a citywide, youth-led group that provides a voice for SFUSD students by representing and presenting the interests of students to the administrative and policy-making bodies of the district. Two SAC members sit on the regular Board of Education and have an honorary vote.

When:   Friday, March 18, 2016 / 12:45-1:30 p.m. (SAC  candidate Q&A with students)

Where:  Fort Mason Center / Marina Blvd. & Buchanan St.
