O'Connell HS students & hotel managers from around the globe problem-solve together: Highlights for September 8-14, 2015 Link to this section
John O'Connell High students will be taking on some hefty topics to help out Ritz-Carlton hotels across the globe. Ninety general managers will visit the school and collaborate with students on problems they have at work. In groups made up of two general managers and four students, the entire school will tackle issues the hotels are currently grappling with, including responsibly reducing food waste from large banquet functions and creating a better workplace wellness program.
In this schoolwide event aligned with Common Core standards, the exercise requires students to weave together knowledge from different content areas, communicate and work in teams, and come up with innovative solutions. Each group of managers and students will frame the problem, generate and evaluate ideas, agree on a solution, and then create a two-minute elevator pitch. After refining their presentations with the expert guidance of Ritz-Carlton managers, students will make their pitches to the hotel executives.
When: Thursday, Sept. 10 / 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Where: John O'Connell HS / 2355 Folsom St.
