Press Release

August 17, 2015 (San Francisco) – “As we celebrate opening day for SFUSD, I want to commend everyone who worked tirelessly to ensure our students have a teacher in every classroom.

SFUSD has hired over 375 classroom teachers for the 2015-2016 school year. Given that we are in the midst of a statewide and national teacher shortage, an upward trending economy, and a retirement bubble, I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished. This truly has been a team effort and I express my gratitude to all those who contributed to recruiting and onboarding our new teachers. And, to all our new teachers, thank you for choosing SFUSD.

While there are many reasons to celebrate our fully staffed classrooms, I believe one is that the word is out that SFUSD is a great place to teach. We are committed to supporting our educators in their professional growth so that all of our students thrive and learn.”
