One class building “tiny home,” another rebuilding Muni bus components


WHAT: SFUSD high schoolers are trying on careers in the automotive technology, urban agriculture, environmental technology, and building and construction trades this summer. Not only are they adding professional experience to their resumes, they are earning class credits and getting paid.
       
WHEN & WHERE       
•    Thursday, July 2  /   Automotive Tech and Safety Program
    Muni shop / 1095 Indiana / 9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

•    Thursday, July 2  /  Construction Trades Program
   John O’Connell High School / 2355 Folsom St /10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

WHY: The Career Technical Education office coordinates the Summer Career Exploration Programs for current SFUSD sophomores and juniors. Students have opportunities to explore careers related to science and technology by participating in project-based learning, classroom projects, worksite visits and college tours. This summer, there are 60 students enrolled in one of four programs.

AUDIO/VISUAL: Students in the Building and Construction Trades class are working on a “tiny home,” an economical and environmentally friendly alternative for housing. Automotive Tech students will be rebuilding bus components (such as air dryers and air compressors) or servicing brakes and oil changes. Students and teachers will be available for interview during the class.
