Farewells & Scholarships - Highlights for May 26-29, 2015 Link to this section
Argonne Elementary always felt a little empty after the fifth graders left the day of their commencement, so the school started a farewell walk tradition so every student in the school can say goodbye. At the appointed time, students and staff will line the school hallways to greet the fifth grade class as they walk through the school and get hugs, high fives and best wishes from teachers and younger schoolmates.
When: Thursday, May 28 / 2:15-2:30 p.m.
Where: Argonne ES / 680-18th Ave.

Thousands of SFUSD graduating seniors are off to pursue their dreams. Alison Talker had a tough time when her parents got divorced, but now she’s headed to Columbia University to study pre-law and hopes to someday reform family law. Gerardo De Leon Rivas was seven when his mother immigrated to San Francisco without him and his siblings. He had to quit school to take care of his younger brother, but eventually he was able to take the difficult journey to join his mother in the U.S. and now plans to pursue a career in nursing. After learning life lessons growing up in public housing, Maurice Finley wants to practice “conscious capitalism” and major in finance and minor in math in college so he can eventually create a global chain of restaurants that sell healthy, affordable and delicious food. In addition to graduating this week on Thursday, these students will be honored as Maisin Scholars, a multi-year scholarship for students determined to achieve their academic goals beyond high school. They will receive financial and other help to support their post-secondary success.
When: Thursday, May 28, 6:00-7:00 PM
