Poems Under the Dome & Same Love Day - Highlights for April 28- May 4, 2015 Link to this section
There’s been a flurry of poetic activity across our schools, and Burton High is no exception, with three creative writing clubs taking time to read, write and explore poetry during National Poetry Month. Burton English teachers help guide the Slam Team, Young Writers' Club, and Friday Writers. Three students from those clubs, Nora Abdelal, Arsander Esteban, and Crystal Jones, will be reading original poems at the 10th annual Poems Under the Dome event at City Hall.

Washington High students are shedding a light on the bullying that LGBTQ youth experience and the mental health problems that can arise as a result. The school’s Wellness Center, Beacon, Youth Outreach Workers, Gay Straight Alliance, and the Bully Me Not Club are hosting a “Same Love Day” event to cast a positive light on tackling these big issues with an LGBTQ trivia game, water balloon toss and other contests, all set to music from the DJ club.
