February 24, 2015 (San Francisco) – San Francisco Unified School District Superintendent Richard A. Carranza has been selected by Education Week as a 2015 “Leader to Learn From.”
“Carranza is one of the leaders who has found great opportunities to innovate and achieve ambitious goals, despite changing policy and budget environments and ever-increasing demands for better performance from teachers and students,” said Lesli Maxwell, the executive project editor for Leaders To Learn From and assistant managing editor at Education Week.
Education Week’s special annual report Leaders To Learn From spotlights innovative school district leaders from around the nation. Carranza was chosen from hundreds of school district leaders nominated by Education Week readers, staff reporters and other education writers, state school administrator groups, and experts in the K-12 field. As part of this recognition, he will be honored at a special event this March in Washington, D.C., where he will share his successes with district leaders and educators from across the country. While in Washington, he will also be a guest at the U.S. Department of Education.
“Our school district is unequivocally dedicated to promoting equity and to developing multilingual and multicultural graduates. In recognizing our work in these areas, Education Week is recognizing how we are continuously improving our system to ensure that we meet the needs of each and every student,” said Superintendent Carranza. “I share this honor with all of our school teachers and leaders who show up every day to serve our children.”
A profile highlighting Carranza’s contributions to the San Francisco Unified School District can be found online at leaders.edweek.org.
