Main Round School Assignments for SY 2025-26

You can find your Assignment Letter in the Documents tab of ParentVUE. Instructions to Documents tab.

Most current SFUSD students received an assignment letter stating that your student will be automatically enrolled. Families who received this letter do not need to take any action to Accept.

For all other students, the deadline to accept or decline your assignment by March 27.

If you want to Decline your school assignment, you can do so in any of the ways described below.

To Decline Using ParentVUE

Follow these steps: 

  1. Go to sfusd.edu/onlineapp and sign in to your ParentVUE account.
  2. Click “Online Forms” on the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Select the online form titled “2025-2026 Decline School Assignment”
  4. Proceed through the online form until you reach a page titled “Decline School Offer”. Select your Decline response in the dropdown box.
  5. Make sure you click “Submit” to complete the form.
  6. To confirm that your submission was received, click “Form Status” on the upper right-hand corner. New submissions will show as “Processing” at first — that is normal.

All SFUSD families, new or current, are provided a ParentVUE account. If you do not have an account yet, please visit sfusd.edu/activate to get started. 

To Decline by Email

All assignment letters for non-auto-accepted were mailed with a paper Response Form.

If you misplaced your paper Response Form, you can download and fill out a blank Response Form:

Complete the Response Form and email a scan or photo of the Response Form with your Decline response to enrollinschool@sfusd.edu.

Please make sure your scan or photo of the Response Form is clear and legible.

To Accept or Decline at our Office In-Person

You can also drop off your completed Response Form in-person at one of our offices. We have two office locations: 555 Franklin Street, Room 100 (open Monday through Friday); and 1520 Oakdale Avenue, Room 13 (open Tuesday and Thursday). Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 

Everything you need to know about the Waitlist

This year, SFUSD is using waitlists to assign students after the Main Round. If a seat becomes available at a school where your student is on the waitlist, you'll have the option to accept that waitlist school, or to keep your Main Round assignment. This system is easier for families to use, since you only need to apply once, and is more transparent than the previous system with multiple rounds of assignment. We'll make assigngments weekly from the wailist starting on April 21, so we think this system will also result in faster offers for many families. 

If your student was assigned to your #1 choice during the Main Round, that’s great! If that was the case, your student was not added to any waitlists.

If your student was not assigned to your #1 choice, then we have automatically placed your student on waitlists for any schools you ranked higher on your choice list than the school you received, up to a maximum of 5 waitlists. You should only keep your student on waitlists for schools you prefer more than your Main Round assignment. If you are satisfied with your Main Round assignment, you can follow the instructions below to remove your student from the waitlist at other schools.

How can I check my waitlist status?

You can view your student's waitlist status in ParentVUE.

  1. Go to sfusd.edu/onlineapp, and log into your account or activate it
  2. Click "ParentVUE" in the upper right-hand corner
  3. Select your student by clicking on the student photo in the upper left-hand corner
  4. Click "Student Info/Waitlist" on the left side of your screen
  5. Scroll down to view the Waitlist Status for SY 2025-26. A table will display the school, grade, and program for each waitlist your student is on. "Preference order" shows where that choice lies on your ranked list (e.g. "1" = your 1st-choice school). "Waitlist Position" shows where your student is on that waitlist (e.g. "1" = your student is 1st on the waitlist).

How can I remove my student from the waitlist?

If your student was automatically placed on waitlists, but you wish to remove them from those waitlists, you can do that in any of these ways:

  • You can cancel any or all of your waitlist requests in ParentVUE, by clicking "Manaage Waitlists" within the Student Info / Waitlists page. Find detailed instructions here.
  • Email enrollinschool@sfusd.edu(link sends email) and provide clear directions about which waitlists to cancel, and which to keep (if any).
  • Call the Enrollment Center at 415-241-6085 and provide clear directions about which waitlists to cancel, and which to keep (if any). 

How can I change my waitlist choices or preference order?

Each student can be on a maximum of 5 waitlists at a time. If you wish to change your waitlist choices or join more waitlists, you can:

If you join a new waitlist after the Main Round, you join at the bottom of the list, below students who were placed there automatically as a result of the Main Round. New waitlist applicants are added based on the day they submit their application, so don’t delay.

If your student is already on the waitlist for a school and you change that school’s position on your preference list, your student will not lose their spot on the waitlist.

Can I remain on waitlists if I decline my school assignment?

Yes, you can remain on waitlists regardless of whether you decline your school assignment or not. Students can remain on waitlists regardless of their enrollment status at other schools.

How many students will get in from the waitlist?

We cannot know this ahead of time, so generally we encourage you to be patient and optimistic. 

You can review information from prior years' Wait Pool assignment round, but that process happened in August, after Round 2, which no longer exists. Generally, we expect to give more waitlist offers than the historical wait pool data suggests. In some cases (denoted in pink cells), we have revised the numbers upward to reflect an estimate that we think is more representative of what is most likely to happen.
