Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): Parents’ Right to Know
Parents/guardians of children attending SFUSD schools that receive Title I federal funds may request information regarding the professional qualifications of the student’s classroom teachers, including at a minimum:
Whether the student’s teacher:
- Has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;
- Is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and
- Is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.
If your student receives instructional support from a paraeducator, parents/guardians may request information on that paraeducator has demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics skills up to or exceeding that required for local high school seniors, meeting the District's qualifications in accordance with California Education Code.
Parents/guardians may request the following information through their child's school, and will be instructed to fill out a digital request form.
