Jennifer Steiner
For over 25 years, Jennifer Steiner has been an equity-centered educator, serving as a classroom Spanish teacher, newcomer middle school teacher instructional coach, school principal, district leader, and leadership coach. She is passionate about helping educators and administrators question their practices to interrupt systemic inequities and achieve equity for all. As a school leader of two schools in SFUSD, she worked to create a collaborative school environment where students thrived academically and in their social emotional development. She dedicated herself to creating inclusive leadership with a deep focus on culturally responsive teaching to better serve the diverse populations at Monroe and BVHM. While serving in C&I as director and executive director, she championed alternative paths to teaching, enhanced diversity in the teaching force in SFUSD and ensured that all new teachers had a centrally assigned coach to improve their practice. In her work with curricular teams, she focused on ensuring coherent support to schools. For the last two years, Ms. Steiner has supported districts and school based teams with leadership coaching around shared leaders practices and community school implementation. She is also an adjunct faculty member at SFSU in their secondary ed department. Ms. Steiner is currently pursuing an Educational Doctorate from East Carolina University, researching how social justice leaders create beloved school communities.
As the Assistant Superintendent of Middle Schools, Ms. Steiner is committed to ensuring that leaders have the support they need to cultivate schools where students, family and staff are seen, heard valued, and loved so that they are positioned to reach their highest potential. Ms. Steiner is deeply passionate about supporting current and future educators, administrators, and systems to question their practices in order to interrupt systemic inequities baked into our system and achieve equity.
