A Bay Area native, Eric Guthertz earned his Bachelor Degree in English Literature and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of California at Los Angeles. He began his teaching career over thirty years ago as an 8th grade English teacher in East Los Angeles. 

Returning to the Bay Area, Eric created and directed The Bill Wilson School, in San Jose, Ca. a comprehensive high school for homeless and runaway teens in the Bay Area.  Eric then worked for eighteen years at Mission High School as an English teacher, department chair and then as the principal for over a decade. Most recently Eric has been a Leadership coach for the district, a Director of High Schools for SFUSD, and is currently the Assistant Superintendent for the Student and Family Services Division.

Guthertz has received several awards during his career including the Mayor’s Principal of the Year Award, the ACSA Region Principal of the Year Award, and was honored by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for his many years of service at Mission High School. He is a proud father of two, both of whom are now beginning their own teaching careers.
